The racial makeup of Beaufort, South Carolina was 46.41% White, 59.14% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.98% from other races, and 1.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race comprised 4.39% of the population.

The age of Beaufort, South Carolina residents was spread out, with 21.6% under the age of 18, 19.5% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
